| Individualized Reading and Writing Program |
Each school day, the students will have one hour that is set aside for independent reading and
writing. During the first thirty minutes, half of the class will be reading independently and
conferencing with the teacher while the other half of the class is working on independent writing.
When the timer dings, the students will switch.
WRITING:
The writing program that we will be following is called Write From The Beginning. It is based on
the Thinking Maps that the students use in all subject areas at Fairforest Elementary. This will be
the fourth year that the WFTB program has been used at our school, so the students should be
familiar with it. Student will be required to complete at least two writing samples each grading
period during the first semester and at least three during the second semester. Writings will be
graded with a rubric. Completed writings should include a Circle Map, FLEE Map, rough draft
that has been revised and edited, and a final draft. Only the final draft will be scored.
